This piece is an effort of the on-going collaboration between myself and playwright Tara Meddaugh (SCENT OF COCONUT…). The piece consists of five ten-minute pieces which explore the glimpses of beautiful kindness, occurring within the harsh context of being 'alive' (hence the substitution of flora for humans…). Inspired by the bleakness of Theatre of the Absurd, but also infused with Tara's unique brand of child-like wonderment, I initially thought MOVEMENTS could be "Absurdism for Pre-Adolescents." My collaboration with costume/scenic designer Rebecca Frey is one of the most fruitful designer-collaborations I've had. I feel our collaboration drastically encouraged us both to embrace the Absurd elements of the piece.
