I've known playwright/performer Melissa Osborne since we were in middle school, so it was quite special for me to work with her. This piece also marks my first time collaborating with William Connell (WATER & DISCARDED HAIR). …categories (a simple play) is a 60 minute piece about 'that person' who played an indefinable role in you becoming who you became. 'Boy and 'Girl' start out as the big man on campus and an introverted freshman (respectively); they evolve into a barista at a midtown coffee chain and an assistant editor at a major publication (yes, respectively again). Indicated by projected snapshots of their lives, the play goes back and forth in time, inviting the audience to track the trajectory of their individual journeys and pinpoint that exact moment where their 'categories' (and the realistic potential for a romantic relationship…) connect for a brief, beautiful instant.
